How To Adjust Conversion Optimizer in Google AdWords

In this hub I will provide entrepreneur training for online marketers on how to adjust conversion optimizer in Google AdWords campaign. The point is that when using Google AdWords entrepreneurs have the opportunity to perform management of advertising campaign bids automatically if AdWords knows about conversions happening to clicks of the campaign. Using conversions will spare you the trouble of changing bids manually. Instead, you can simply set the necessary cost per conversion and the management of the bids will be done by conversion optimizer that is available in AdWords. The main thing you have to do to be able to launch such an automatic campaign management is to get conversion data on the website and combine AdWords with Analytics. The main condition that you have to fulfill in order to launch conversion optimizer is to have no less than 15 conversions for a certain campaign per month.

Conversion optimizer AdWords sets bids not for clicks, but for conversions (actions, request generations, shop sale orders and so on.). Performing management by means of conversion optimizer, we have the opportunity to set cost per conversion.

If you’re ready, for example, to pay for the request from the website for some certain amount of money, then in this case we simply set the cost in campaign settings. Therefore AdWords will manage all the bids for all requests. In other words, we don’t have to manage campaign bids at all. Performing management of advertising campaign manually, you may just waste your time and make huge mistakes.

Step by Step Guide to achieve highest ROI!

I would like to provide visitors of my hub with step-by-step entrepreneur training guide on how to adjust conversion optimizer and have the highest ROI. Thus, you are welcome!

1. First of all you have to implement Google Analytics into all the web pages of your website. Then you will have to register at Google Analytics system and install a counter code on all the web pages without exception.
2. Setup at least one target on your website in Analytics. The target implies request sending, order generation and so on.
3. Then you should check whether the target is taken into consideration and conversions really work; estimate the number of conversions per week. It is extremely important to estimate the number of conversions if 5-10 conversions have taken place after Analytics installation and target setup.
4. Launch advertising campaign in AdWords.
5. Unite AdWords account with Analytics account.
6. It is probable that when uniting the accounts AdWords won’t display on the list the accessible Analytics accounts that you need. The main reasons for that are the following: Analytics account has been already united with some AdWords account. It can be easily checked if you enter using the same login under which you’ve registered Analytics or AdWords. If it doesn’t work then try to find your old AdWords account. The reason may also be in the fact that Analytics account has been registered by someone else, i.e. two Analytics counters have been created for the same website.
7. Click on “Reporting and Tools –> Conversions” tab in AdWords campaigns.
8. You will see a web page with “Conversions” tab and a table.
9. If Analytics had already registered some conversions happened on the website by that time, then in the table there would appear a string or strings with the targets created by you in Analytics.
10. Automatically created targets must have “Active” status.
11. If you see a table where the target with “Active” status is indicated, later you should check whether conversions are gathering on the very web page where conversions are tracked.
12. Two weeks later when at least 15 conversions have happened, you may start the management by means of tracking conversions. No less than two weeks must pass even if you’ve got 15 conversions per day. This is the rule set by Google for gathering reliable statistics.
13. Select AdWords campaign, then go to its settings and in “Bidding and budget” click on “Bidding option” and choose Focus on conversions (Conversion Optimizer) in order to pay for conversions, i.e. to use maximum rates per conversion.
14. If Google doesn’t allow you to choose this option, it means that one of the rules on gathering conversion statistics hasn’t been fulfilled.

Very helpful info, thanks, Terje Sannarnes. I haven't pursued Google Analytics on my main website just yet. I wonder if maybe you have to have a bit a traffic before you embark on this, or is it best to go ahead and apply Google Analytics from the start?

Awesome tip Terje. Most people are not even aware of conversion optimiser. Let Google do the hard work of finding whats relevant and what isnt. They want you to get the best conversion so you will spend more money :)
